How to Make Keepsake Kindergarten Ornaments
Christmas is here! Let’s celebrate by making keepsake kindergarten ornaments that your students’ parents will hang on their tree year after year. I’ve got a classic kindergarten hand print ornament that has simple steps and turns out precious.
Plus, I’ll share three more ornament ideas for kindergarten with you in case you’re looking for something a little different than this project.
Making Hand Print Kindergarten Ornaments
Get your hands on these basic ornament making supplies. I found all of mine at the Dollar Tree.
What You’ll Need
- Plastic bulb ornament (1 per child)
- Fake snow (or white filler)
- Glitter
- Glue
- Paintbrush
- Sharpie marker
Step One – Fill the Christmas Bulb
Start by filling your plastic Christmas bulbs with fake snow. My snow came from the dollar store and would probably fill about 5 bulbs with the amount pictured in this tutorial.
You can decide how much filler material you want in yours.
Pouring this stuff into the bulbs is by far the way to go. It does fly everywhere so working slowly at this step will save in some clean up later – though you may still need to apologize to the custodian for the glitter and snow debris. {wink}
Put the lid back on the bulbs when done.
Step Two – Paint with Glue
Paint one hand with glue – or a slightly watered down version. A thick paintbrush gotten thoroughly wet would be just enough water to help spread glue evenly on the hand’s surface.
Paint the palm and fingers. Don’t add too much water or it’ll drip down the ornament’s surface.
Step Three – Make a Hand Print
Place the bulb in the sticky hand and form an open hand print by gently gripping the bulb. This step is easy peasy.
Add pinches of glitter sprinkled on top of the gluey areas and tap to get the excess glitter off.
Allow time to dry (it’s usually super fast!) and use a Sharpie marker to write names and the year on each kindergarten ornament.
I tested out mine with a two year old… so if we can manage a decent looking hand print, your kinders prints will look fantastic.
Wrap them up the easy way – with a paper lunch sack decorated as a reindeer. This keepsake kindergarten ornament turns out to be a perfect Christmas gift for your students to give to their parents.
Alternative Easy Christmas Ornaments to Make
Now, if this particular project doesn’t fit your level of project dedication this year you could try one of these other simple Christmas ornaments for kindergarten ideas.
1. Skip the glue in my project and just opt for drawing a snowman’s face onto the plastic bulb. Fill the DIY snowman Christmas ornament almost to the top with artificial snow.
2. Use two colors of a stamp pad, white and green paper and some twine to make a sweet thumbprint Christmas tree ornament.
3. Some popsicle sticks, markers, googly eyes, ribbon and a red puffball make the ultimate reindeer ornament. Can we say classically cute?
